The Trails Master Plan calls for a “Type D Special” pathway whenever possible on pathways within Valley Center, like Heritage Trail. They will have an “enhanced” footprint along an up-to thirteen-foot pathway, on a four-inch decomposed granite base, enclosed by four-foot lodge-pole pine fencing on both sides of the trail.

The "Heritage Trail" is just the beginning of our trail and pathways system. Some of the added potential trails/pathways will meander through some of our valley's most beautiful settings, and connect the community to its schools and resources. They will create a multi-modal system that will welcome pedestrians, bicyclists, equestrians and other non-motorized travelers.

Heritage Trail

The Heritage Trail is the culmination of years of work by the Valley Center Trails Association in conjunction with Valley Center Parks and Recreation, Supervisor Bill Horn and the county department of public works. When work began on the widening of Valley Center Road, it was imperative that the community get a walkable trail alongside the road. This is what we now use as Heritage Trail today.

We are so pleased each day to see our community enjoying this trail, and look forward to having additional trails connect to and from Heritage Trail.

Adjacent to the Solar Farm off VC Road

When the Solar Farm project off Valley Center road was built, we were granted a trail easement which became known as the Sunshine Trail. This small trail segment is the short, but filled with the potential for connectivity with future trails including a join-up with Heritage Trail.
