Marian Klein - Secretary
I was born and brought up in New York City and Northern New Jersey. I graduated from Barnard College, where I majored in English. Soon after graduation, I married my husband Marcus, who has a Ph.D. in American Literature from Columbia University. Five years after we married, we moved to Buffalo,New York, where he took a position as Professor of English at the State University of New York at Buffalo. We lived there for 37 years.
Despite the long, cold, snowy winters, we had good times in Western New York. We had two children, a daughter, who is now in the financial world, working as a training consultant, and a son, who is a labor attorney. Both of them live in Boston, Mass. We were lucky enough to do lots of traveling, living abroad in Toulouse and Paris, France, for two years, and in Israel for six months, while my husband taught in various universities.
I hold two Masters degrees, in special education and social work, both from the State University at Buffalo. During the 37 years in Buffalo, I held many interesting and challenging positions, including teaching special education, working for various agencies (among them Hospice), and supervising college students in their field placements.
When my husband and I retired about ten years ago, we spent three winters in the Escondido area. We fell in love with Valley Center and its rural atmosphere, and six years ago moved here permanently. We have never regretted our move. I garden, hike, ride horseback (a new adventure for me). I am the Friends of the Library bookstore manager, and feel that I have become part of the community. After 37 years in Buffalo, Valley Center is like paradise. I want to participate in making trails accessible to all who, like me, love Valley Center and feel the uniqueness of the area in which we live.
